Jumping brothers

This returning client decided to have some action in their session this time. So after playing with their absolutely adorable puppy, we brought out the mattress, started the music and moved! Both kids had a blast!

Nothing says Norman Rockwell more than this. I told the little boy to kiss the puppy and I got this. I love it!

All I want for Christmas is my two front teeth...

The timing of this session was very carefully planned. The Mom had been waiting patiently for her son's front two teeth to fall out so we could capture that wonderful toothless smile before those new teeth started growing in. And now she has been waiting patiently for me to proof all those Alaska sessions! Thank you for your patience! :-)

High school senior black belt

9/4/2009

I felt priviledged to take the senior pictures for this Conifer High School senior. He is a third degree black belt instructor at my Taekwondo school and has shown amazing patience when helping me to learn my forms and techniques (it's hard to teach an old dog a new trick!). This time the tides were turned and it was my turn to instruct him as to how to stand, turn his head and place his hands.

Colorado High School Senior

It was really fun photographing this high school senior girl. She is a real Colorado girl - no issues whatsoever with a little rain or a little mud. I enjoyed her laid back attitude - I think she'll do just fine in life.

Kodiak, Alaska - 12

8/25/2009

Share

This is the last of my Kodiak blog entries. I loved all twelve sessions and can't wait to go back! It is such a special place and the people are truly wonderful. I hope everyone has enjoyed a glimpse into life on Kodiak Island.

When this family piled out of their car, I could tell immediately that it was going to be a fun one. The older sister was hugging the little one, the two boys were goofing around, the Grandma smiling, and the Mom and Dad were completely calm (a very good sign!).

We started out on a nice mossy area before moving down to the beach. Since there were 4 kids and since this family seemed low-key, I was able to convince them to try one of my favorite large family poses - a family heap. I've never done one outside and the Mom was very cool about it even though she was at the bottom of the heap!

Here's a mom with impeccable timing. Her session was scheduled for 9:00 am and she gave birth to her second son a couple hours later. So the Grandma and I had a little session with the older son and then went on over to the hospital to photograph the new baby, only a couple hours old!

I am very fond of this family. In fact I have photographed them 4 times! The mom is the very reason I come to Kodiak. She discovered me in Colorado on vacation one year and came back to my studio the next year. And after spreading the word to her Kodiak friends, I was able to start coming up to Kodiak. Thanks!!

Their session this time was hilarious. They brought their two dogs and two chickens to the beach. I had never photographed a pet chicken before and we had a blast!

Check out the cool sun rays we got at the end of their session.

When I photographed this little lady two years ago, she wasn't quite sitting up but had lots of smiles for me. This time she was running around, full of energy and life. And boy has she been busy growing hair!!

Look at her two years ago. What a change!

In Kodiak, the kids seem to live in a particular type of adorable rubber boots. So when this little girl put on her ballet tutu with her Kodiak boots, it was unbelievably cute. I was happy to photograph her and her brother on both of my trips to Kodiak.

This was another returning client. I hardly recognized the little boy, he had changed so much in the last two years - definitely time for new portraits!

Those of you who know my work know how much I love silhouettes. In this session, we happened upon the perfect place for a silhouette. Even the dog played along.

For the kids who misbehave, it's into the Abercrombie canon for them! Just kidding - these kids were wonderful to work with.

This is the second time I've had the pleasure of photographing these two cuties. They really snuggle well together. For some siblings it's not so easy to be close but not for these two. Cute!

This little 3 month old baby had the cutest head of hair you ever saw. So so sweet. And he gave us his best smiles right after being getting a bunch of bug bites - a real trooper!

I love, love, love this family. They have shown me such wonderful hospitality in both my visits to Kodiak, that it makes me want to move there! Oh yeah, and their kids are darn cute too!

Another fun session. These kids lasted a long time, giving me the opportunity to take lots of different types of pictures. Very cute!

This picture was completely candid. I was running up the beach to get my tripod. I turned around and captured this shot. The kids did a lot of flying during the session. I wouldn't be surprised if the dad's arms were sore the next day!

As I was reviewing the images after the session, this one made me weepy. There is so much love here - it made me miss my own kids who were back in Colorado.

I really enjoyed working with this family! You can tell they just love being outside and having fun. I ran into them later in the week while they were out on a family bike ride and they were still smiling and laughing.

These four cousins were really sweet and were as happy to be on the beach as I was.

Colors and Light

The light was perfect for this girl's high school senior pictures. I absolutely love how the light just reflected off her beautiful red hair. Wow! This young lady is a favorite in our household as she has been our summer child care for 5 years now. She is an amazing person and we feel privileged to have had her with us.

Summer is flying by!

7/30/2009

I haven't dropped off the face of the earth - really! It's been a very busy summer. I had a couple Colorado Heart Gallery sessions which went well. These are children who are up for adoption in Colorado. Professional photographers volunteer to photograph the kids and a large gallery of the images travels around the state. The Heart Gallery has been quite successful and I am proud to be a part of it. This year I photographed an 8 year old boy and an 11 year old girl.

Then I took a much needed break and vacationed with my family. We drove to Wisconsin, played at a lake house for 5 days, and then drove home, catching the Badlands, Mt Rushmore, and Wind Cave National Park on the way home.

Now I'm wrapping up loose ends and I am preparing for my work trip to Kodiak, Alaska. I have all 12 session slots filled and two on the waiting list. I can't wait to get back there - it is just unbelievably beautiful up there!

When I'm back, it's full speed into high school senior sessions. Call now to reserve your session time for Conifer High School senior pictures or Evergreen High School senior pictures!

Green green green!

This outdoorsy family wanted an outdoor session so we headed to my favorite open space park. And WOW! The green is unbelievable this year. We have had so much rain and it is so pretty (when it's not raining that is). I just love this little guy's smile and his sweet 16 sister is certainly photogenic!
