Meet Fred6/24/2008 ShareThe arrival of this little fellow into our household has been anticipated for a long, long time. My daughter saved her allowance for the good part of a year for a tortoise, and in the meantime we have all become a little turtle crazy. Our first tortoise arrived very very sick and it was heartbreaking when he died a day later. Then our friends gave us Fred and we have been in turtle heaven ever since. Meet Fred, our latest family member...

A grandmother's joy6/16/2008 ShareThis grandma was thrilled to have all her grandchildren visit her on the same day so she celebrated by having a portrait session. We did some of all the kids together and then some individuals and family groupings.

Discussing Life6/10/2008 ShareBetween the time these two kids (ages 4 and 6) got out of the car and we walked to the nearby open space park, I got to learn all about them. No shyness here! They had plenty to tell me and it was so cute. Combo sessions continue to be the most popular type of session for my clients. The outside and inside pictures are so different and unique, it's like having two completely different sessions at one time.

The perfect vacation6/5/2008 ShareMy 8 year old daughter wrote about her favorite family tradition in school last year - our annual trip to Moab. I have to say I agree. Every year for the last 7 years we have gone to Moab to hike and to hike and to hike, every single day. Typically we hike for a ways and then find the perfect water spot and let the kids play for hours. They catch tadpoles and minnows, build mud and stone dams, and create games and stories. Sometimes they just sit and look around them and say how pretty it is. Again I have to agree. We have this tradition with our dear friends from Colorado Springs. They have four kids and we have two - this year they all ranged from 4 to 11 years old. And I have to say we reached a major milestone this year. Not a single kid was carried in a Kelty kid pack! My professional cameras stay home. They're all grown up and heavy and not welcome with the sand and mud. My little knock-about camera comes along and somehow it keeps on working. These pictures are just snapshots from that little camera, but really snapshots are just as important memories as those professional pictures hanging large over your mantel. Sometimes we hike on slick rock and….
Sometimes we hike in streams.
Catching tadpoles at our favorite tadpole hole.
What is it? What is it? Why it's an ant hole! Every creature is amazing if you just take the time to look.

Father's Day gift5/27/2008 ShareThe mom of these three kids really wanted to do something special for Father's Day this year so we had an outside session just of the kids. It was a beautiful day in the open space park!

Sweet cup of tea5/23/2008 ShareThis brother (21 months) and sister (4 1/2 months) came to me while visiting from St. Louis. Just look how their skin glows!
Ok, this is the sweet cup of tea I referred to in the title. This little gal just smiles and smiles. I'm not much into props but I do love my teacup!

All smiles5/21/2008 ShareThis family, who has a 5 yr old son and 6 week old baby girl, had a great session. The boy was so happy that he would easily break out in smiles just by talking about Power Rangers or lizards. And he was super sweet with his little sister too.

Summer rec center brochure5/14/2008 ShareThe latest Summer Evergreen Recreation Center brochure features another Kids Being Kids Portraits picture on its cover! I took this image at the First Annual Kids Races last August. What a great event! I was the event photographer and I also was a sponsor. My kids both participated and are eagerly awaiting the next one on August 24, 2008. This is a great way to get your kids interested in running and is an important fund raiser for the EPRD Special Needs and Special Olympics programs. There are a smathering of other Kids Being Kids pictures throughout the brochure - check it out!

High key portraits5/12/2008 ShareThis family has three boys and they were so much fun to photograph! For the studio portion of their combo session they selected a white backdrop, creating a beautiful high-key effect with the light colored clothing. A high key photograph is one that contains large areas of light tones. I love the look of true high key portraits especially in black and white. This one is from the Open Space near my studio so it isn't high key, but the others are!

1 year combo5/9/2008 ShareIn celebration of this cutie's first birthday this family came up from Aurora for a combo session. Normally I like to start off outside but the rain started pouring right before their session. And then like clockwork, after we were done in the studio, the sun came out and we had a beautiful nicely cleaned forest to take pictures in!
Look - there's green things coming out of the ground! It must be Spring!

Airport session4/29/2008 ShareWell, not really a session. But I just can't help it - whenever we're waiting in an airport I have to whip out my camera. The huge windows provide fantastic lighting! Next time you're sitting around waiting for a plane, take out your camera, turn off the flash and have fun!

Maybe my mother was right4/19/2008 ShareMy mom, who had five children, often told me that after the first two it was easy. "Yeah right" I always thought. Well, I just had another fantastic session with a family of six. The last one I had with 4 kids went great too. ALL the kids were happy and well behaved and a true joy! We took a couple shots in the open space park before heading into the studio. That haze you see in the background is a storm moving in. 24 hours after this picture was taken there was a foot of snow on the ground!
I just had to try family heap picture with this group - fun!
