Happy Holidays!

12/24/2007

Share

Just wanted to say Happy Holidays to everyone! I am taking a short break for Christmas but will be back to work soon. One of my immediate goals is updating my portfolio - there are so many images from the last year I want to add. Oh, and I need to re-code this blog. I forgot to include an archive function - oops! Thanks for your support and take care.

Evergreeners - ice skating on the lake starts tomorrow Dec 25th! Yaaaay!

My (friend's) Three Sons

12/18/2007

Share

I love photographing this family because their sons' ages are so wide-ranging. And because they are just so casual and relaxed, I can't help but have fun.

Another snowy day in the park

The alternative side of me just absolutely loves this image. When I found out I was photographing this family I hoped for an image like this.

Speaks to me

12/18/2007

Share

This brother and sister had a great studio session, both in a cheery mood - fun! This first one just speaks to me. I can't explain why, but I just love it all the way down to the curled toes.

And here's baby brother. I was surprised at all the spontaneous smiles he had for me.

Anyone else remember the Gong Show? (showing my age) Everytime I see a hat worn like this I have a flashback. This little girl is much cuter in her hat than Chuck Barris!

Snowy combo

12/18/2007

Share

This combo session was more inside than out because there's snow in the Open Space park near my studio now! That's exciting because snow really adds to a portrait but it's chilly for the little ones! I just loved this sister and brother - their skin just glowed.

This little guy was playing the air guitar!

What a beauty...

Aspen family

This happy family has their own aspen grove in their yard and it is just gorgeous. We played outside for while and then went inside when it became a little too chilly for the baby.

Parents make the best props

12/14/2007

Share

I'm not big into props and you won't find a lot in my studio. But I do love using parents as props. Here's a cute one of a little guy playing around his daddy's legs.

And here's his big sister - I love the candidness of this shot.

So Sweet

12/14/2007

Share

This family had some really sweet images from their holiday session this year. You may recognize the younger ones from a previous blog entry (Now & Then Twins). I'll let the older sister have the spotlight this time.

Another then & now

12/14/2007

Share

Here's another family that I've been fortunate to photograph every year. When they started out with me I had my first studio lights which were pretty simplistic. If I needed to drop the light intensitiy by an F-stop, I would just drape a pair of kids white cotton underwear over the strobe - my studio looked like a laundry room! Thankfully, my studio strobes are much more versatile now, but I do remember those days fondly.

NOW

and THEN

On the floor

I've been having some fun recently with photographing kids laying on their backs. They just seem comfortable laying down and immediately relax and have fun.

Family Heap

12/12/2007

Share

This family came to me requesting an action panorama of the whole family. Fun! So we did that and then I asked if I could take a full family shot since I don't get to photograph such large families very often! Well it ended up being a heap and one of my favorite studio family pictures.

Five day old beauty

12/7/2007

Share

Whew! It's been quite a holiday season and I have so many pictures to share! This five day old beauty came a week early right in the middle of the holiday portrait rush, but I'm SO glad I could fit them in because it was just a great session. And her 10 year old brother was just about the sweetest older brother I've ever met. Here's some images from their session:

Now and Then Twins

I just love this family. They come to me every year for their family portraits and it is fun capturing the changes in their three children from year to year. Here's some now and then images of their twins.

Cutie Combo

10/30/2007

Share

This little cutie had a combo session (1/2 outside and 1/2 studio) to celebrate her 1st birthday. She did fairly well throughout the session. And then when she got to take her clothes off in the studio... boy oh boy, life was GOOD!

The stars were aligned

10/29/2007

Share

When I capture an image like this, I just smile and say the stars were aligned. These three siblings were lying on their tummies and the youngest popped up, ready to do something new and in his movement gave an impromptu thumbs up. And the two older kids just happened to smile at each other at the exact same time. Just gotta love those stars…

Aspen Glow

10/24/2007

Share

When I moved to Colorado 16 years ago from the East I thought that the Falls would be dull because the trees are primarily one color. Boy was I wrong! The mountain aspens and cottonwoods have an amazing breathtaking golden glow when they are at their peak. In this image, the glow of the Fall leaves is reflected in the creek. Wow!

Best friends

10/22/2007

Share

It was apparent from the moment I met this family that these two brothers were best of friends. They were tossing a football, exploring, wrestling, everything… together.

And look who has joined their lives. I'm sure she's already getting excellent wrestling lessons from her brothers.

End of the session

10/22/2007

Share

Well, I've made it through school photos and Fall color sessions. Unfortunately I injured my back putting me a little behind in my work but I'm back - hard at work ready to catch up and keep going! I can't wait to share some of my recent sessions.

Here's one I love from a session with two sisters. It was the end of the session, and these sisters just relaxed into each other when I captured this image. I love the colors, yet I love the emotion brought out by the black & white. Which do you like the best?
